Africanized "killer" honey bees [Apis mellifere] are a nonnative species that are a hybrid of the western honey bee cross-breeding with the East African lowland honey bee. Africanized honey bees are more defensive (not more aggressive) than European honey bees and search for new nest sites 16 times a year vs. just once. You can only distinguish between the two bee species via lab testing.
